Nintendo announced on Friday that retail pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 Game System will start at $449.99 starting April 24th.
Hot and expected console pre-orders were originally scheduled for April 9th, but Nintendo delayed the date to assess the impact of the widespread, offensive “mutual” tariffs announced earlier this month by President Donald Trump.
Most electronic companies, including Nintendo, manufacture their products in Asia. Nintendo’s Switch 1 console was made in China and Vietnam, Reuters reported in 2019. Trump has imposed a 145% tariff rate on China and a 10% rate on Vietnam. The latter has fallen from 46% after enacting a 90-day hiatus to allow negotiations.
Nintendo said Friday that the Switch 2 would cost $449.99 in the US. This is the same price that the company first announced on April 2nd.
“We apologise for the delay in pre-orders at retailers, and hopefully this will reduce some of the uncertainty that consumers may be experiencing,” Nintendo said in a statement. “We appreciate the patience of our customers and share the excitement of experiencing Nintendo Switch 2 from June 5th, 2025.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mario Kart World bundle cost $499.99, the digital version of Mario Kart World costs $79.99, and the digital version of Donkey Kong Bananza costs $69.99. All of these prices have not changed since the company’s initial announcement.
However, the Nintendo Switch 2 accessories “experience price adjustments,” the company said, and “Nintendo products” could allow for other future changes in costs.
For example, buy $10 for a gamer in a dock set, another $1 for a controller strap, and another $5 for a dollar.
Retailers Best Buy On Friday, he said he will also begin accepting pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, games and accessories on April 24th.
The company said that customers can “get a new Switch 2 soon” as most stores will open for the official release date on June 5th for the first time in six years.
