Meta We have launched a thread microblog service for all advertisers.
The social networking giant said in a blog post Wednesday that all “qualified advertisers can run ads on threads globally” and marked an expansion from the first tests with several US and Japanese companies that began in January.
Companies running thread ads can also access the so-called inventory filters of the meta. This can also determine if the promotion is approaching offensive content, Meta said in a blog post.
“These ads will be delivered in select markets at launch and will be deployed in additional markets as they continue to be tested and studied,” Meta said in the post.
Meta’s thread ad testing represents the company’s first foray into revenue generation for services like Twitter, which debuted in July 2023.
In January, Meta Chief Financial Officer Susan Lee said in a fourth-quarter revenue call with analysts that the company “introduces advertising on threads slowly” and that executives “doesn’t expect it to be a meaningful driver of overall impression or revenue growth in 2025.”
Analysts previously said before Tesla’s Chief Elon Musk bought the social messaging platform in 2022 that the thread could be a major revenue stream for a meta similar to X, previously known as Twitter.
The thread has over 320 million active users,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told analysts in January.
“The thread hopes to continue its trajectory and become a major discussion platform and ultimately reach 1 billion people over the next few years,” Zuckerberg said at the time.
