Amazon The company announced Thursday.
The company said it has added “hundreds of commonly prescribed pet medications” to its U.S. sites, ranging from flea and mites solutions to treatment for chronic diseases.
The prescription must be purchased over-the-counter on Amazon and approved by your veterinarian. The online pet pharmacy veterinarian supervises the dispensing and delivery of the medication, adding that items will usually be delivered within 2-6 days.
Amazon launched Digital Drugstore in 2020, adding discounts and free streaming for Prime members. The company has been working to speed up its prescription cargo over the past year, bringing same-day delivery to several US cities. Last October, Amazon set its goal in 2025 to make rapid medical delivery available in almost half the US.
With the new pet medication offering, Amazon offers Walmart, which offers delivery of PET prescriptions in addition to more direct competition with online pet pharmacies’ chewiness.
Amazon Pharmacy also includes one healthcare provider, including a primary care provider that was acquired in July 2022 for approximately $3.9 billion. Amazon’s online pharmacy was born from the 2018 acquisition of online pharmacy Pillpack.
