Astronomers announced Saturday that CEO Andy Byron had resigned a few days after he was caught up in the video at a Coldplay concert in an intimate moment with the company’s HR manager.
“Andy Byron has filed his resignation and the board has accepted,” the company said in a statement. “The board will begin searching for the next CEO as co-founder and chief product officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”
Byron was on display on the big screen at a concert in Boston on Wednesday, holding his arms around Chief People Officer Christine Cabot. Married to a child, Byron quickly went into hiding when the couple appeared on screen. Lead singer Chris Martin said, “They are either cheating or are very shy.” The video of the incident with the concert attendees has been word-of-mouth.
In May, Astronomer announced a $93 million investment round led by other investors, including Bain Ventures and Salesforce Ventures.
Byron’s resignation comes after astronomers launched a “formal investigation” on Friday on the matter and said the CEO was placed on administrative leave.
“Before this week, we are known as pioneers in the DataOps space, helping our data teams help everything from the latest analytics to production AI,” the company said in a statement on Saturday. “Our leaders are expected to set standards in both conduct and accountability, and these standards have not been met recently.”
