Meta Friday CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Shengjia Zhao, co-creator of Openai’s ChatGPT, will serve as Chief Scientist at Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Zuckerberg has been involved in the multi-billion-dollar artificial intelligence that hires Blitz in recent weeks, highlighted by a $14 billion investment in scale AI. In June, Zuckerberg announced a new organization called Meta Superintelligence Labs, consisting of top AI researchers and engineers.
Zhao’s name was listed among other new recruits in a memo in June, but Zuckerberg said on Friday that Zhao co-founded the lab and “has been our lead scientist from day one.” Zhao will work directly with former CEOs of Scale AI, Zuckerberg and Alexandr Wang, who serve as Meta’s chief AI officers.
“Shengjia has already pioneered several breakthroughs, including a new scaling paradigm, and has made herself stand out as a leader in this field,” Zuckerberg wrote in a social media post. “We look forward to working closely with him to advance his scientific vision.”
In addition to co-creating CHATGPT, Zhao helped build OpenAI GPT-4, MINI model, 4.1 and O3, and previously led synthetic data at Openai, according to June Memo of Zuckerberg.
Meta Superintelligence Labs will be where employees work on basic models such as AI models, products and the open source rama family of basic artificial intelligence research projects.
Social media companies will invest “least hundreds of millions of dollars” in AI computing infrastructure, Zuckerberg said earlier this month.
“The next few years will be very exciting!” Zuckerberg wrote Friday.
