Renowned Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe this week unveiled its first new collection in 25 years, called the Cubitas line.
The new collection comes at a time when prices for luxury watches have largely stabilized, driven by strong demand. Young investors and collectors started buying luxury watches during the coronavirus pandemic, but second-hand prices have fallen in recent days.
Patek Philippe’s new range includes three different models, two with steel cases and one in platinum, which, according to a press release, “represents a new reinterpretation of ‘elegant and sporty’ style. Patek Philippe said it has incorporated new technology into the watch, from an ultra-thin automatic mini-rotor to a momentary jump mechanism that matches different readings within 18 milliseconds. The brand announced that it has filed six patents related to this new technology.
Patek Philippe’s new collection also includes new cufflinks designed to match watches with white gold frames that mirror the shape of the case.
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is often referred to as one of the “holy trinity” of watchmaking, along with Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
The last time the brand released a new collection before the Cubitus line was in 1999, when the Twenty~4 design was released. According to Patek Philippe’s website, the range is “dedicated to young, active, modern women.”
