Your Guide to Washington and the World’s 2024 US Election Means
Elon Musk claimed a cyberattack on his social media platform X on Monday. Adjusted by “IP addresses occurring in the Ukraine region.”
The billionaire, transformed into a fierce critic of the Ukrainian government and the war against Russia, did not provide evidence of the allegations made in an interview with Fox Business on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Musk said “large, coordinated groups and/or countries” were in charge of the attack on X, leading to widespread outages in the US and elsewhere.
The platform, previously known as Twitter, has experienced some confusion since Musk bought it in 2022 and fired 80% of its staff. The X spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The obvious attack on X has repeatedly disrupt services throughout the day, causing several days of bruises for the mask business. His electric car company Tesla shares fell 15% on Monday amid a wider market defeat. The stock is one of the worst performances on the S&P 500 index so far this year.
Last week, Musk’s SpaceX lost another of its next-gen Starship Rockets and exploded nine minutes after its release.
Tesla has suffered major out-of-dealer protests over Mask’s role as head of the so-called Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which cut hundreds of government contracts and fired tens of thousands of federal employees.
Speaking to former Trump advisor Larry Kudlow at Fox Business, Musk said his job in the government means he runs other businesses “big difficulties.”
“I just don’t want America to go bankrupt,” Musk said. He repeated his goal of achieving $100 million in savings from government spending. This would be about half the annual US budget deficit.
Alongside his role in the clumsy, Musk supported Ukraine’s early war efforts by deploying the domestic Starlink Internet service, but has become increasingly critical of US aid to Ukraine, claiming that the war effort against Russia is a “endless grafted meat grinder.”
Earlier on Monday, Musk called Senator Mark Kelly a “traitor” and called the US to leave NATO after posting that he spent time with the military in Ukraine.
