On Tuesday, Instagram launched a standalone editing video creation app that offers features similar to those already available from Tiktok Parent Bytedance.
The new app allows creators to organize project ideas, shoot and edit videos, and access content insights. Editing includes background exchanges, automatic captions and artificial intelligence tools that allow you to turn images into videos.
“There’s a lot going on in the world right now. No matter what happens, I think it’s our job to create the most engaging creative tools for those who make videos not just for Instagram but for the platform.”
Apparently there’s an edit MetaThe Tiktok sister app, the answer to Capcut, is owned by China-based parent company Bytedance. This allows users to create and edit videos on their phones and computers.

Uncertainty about Tiktok’s future, the move to launch editing on Instagram can be seen as a step towards acquiring status based on the next era of short video creation in the creator economy.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump extended the deadline for the ordinance that would either sell Tiktok’s US business or face an effective ban twice. The deadline is currently mid-June.
