David Pruf, who worked as an advisor to former US Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, will be taking part in Coinbase’s Global Advisory Council.
In a notice Thursday, Coinbase said Plouffe appears to join former lawmakers, industry leaders and others on the advisory board of other companies to advise on exchanges on policies moving forward in the US and abroad, as well as on future election roles. Pruf’s appointment to the council marked one of his first roles in cryptography and policy since leaving Harris’s campaign.
“It’s important to understand that people with Crypto or Stablecoin may not be the most important issue for voting,” Plouffe said in Coinbase’s Crypto Summit state, adding:
“If you are a politician in office, the ability to speak to people who may be code enthusiasts who are not sure if they will be involved may not have participated before.
The addition of Plouffe to Coinbase Council could indicate an effort by the exchange to continue politically active in the United States. CEO Brian Armstrong has been closer to the Trump administration since the 2024 election.
Nonpartisan approach to crypto policy?
Trump’s co-campaign manager for the 2024 election, Chris Lacivita, joined Coinbase Council in January. Council members include several former U.S. lawmakers, including former Senator Kirsten Cinema and former Senator Pat Tohmy.

Trump also spoke to attendees at Coinbase event Thursday in a pre-recorded message about his future crypto policy, including the Genius Act and the Digital Asset Market Structure Bill. At the time of publication, neither the Senate nor the House passed either the bill, but the senator was expected to vote for the Stubcoin bill soon.
