OpenAI on Tuesday announced ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser powered by artificial intelligence.
The company says the browser is built around ChatGPT, which allows users to open chatbots as sidebars on any page, provide summaries and explanations, or perform tasks within the window.
The launch of ChatGPT Atlas puts OpenAI in direct competition with rivals such as: google Perplexity AI is competing to attract users and gain market share with its browser products.
Following the announcement, Google’s parent company Alphabet’s stock price fell about 3%.
“We see AI as a once-in-a-decade opportunity to reimagine what a browser is,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a livestream Tuesday.
ChatGPT Atlas is available to macOS users worldwide, and OpenAI says experiences for Windows, iOS, and Android will be available soon.
