Spotify It was down Wednesday, with around 50,000 reports of a downturn halt.
The company was featured entirely on Twitter shortly after the midday EDT, thanking listeners for their patience.
“Spotify went through a shutdown today from around 6:20am. As of 11:45am EDT, Spotify is working normally,” the company said in a statement.
The giant running through the music did not provide any additional details regarding the extent of the stop.
Users pasted responses to the announcement of the company’s suspension with frustration and memes.
“I just humm to myself,” writes user @Alexisstyler.
The company recently reported its first profitable year, saying it paid the music industry a record of $10 billion in royalties.
According to Spotify’s annual loud, clear report, nearly 1,500 artists individually generated more than $1 million, with over 80% of that pool not reaching the song.
The app has added new ad features over the past few months.
In early April, the company released a new generative artificial intelligence ads, reporting that its automated advertising channel had driven $2 billion in advertising spending on digital audio from the start of the year.
Of the company’s 675 million monthly active users, over half are free users who offer ads when streaming music.
